Welcome to Urban Equity, a site – open to all – which provides support, information and inspiration to students and staff within built environment disciplines interested in issues of equity. Founded in the School of Architecture + Cities at the University of Westminster, the site promotes new ways to respond to the challenge of making the environments we occupy more inclusive and equitable. In the spirit of movements which address questions of social and spatial justice, Urban Equity foregrounds approaches to designing and thinking about the built environment which:
- recognise and respond to the needs, experiences, creativity and ambitions of those groups who remain under-represented in built-environment disciplines;
- seek to move beyond categorising groups according to reductive distinctions, to acknowledge diversity within groups, and commonalities across them. In this sense, the site has an intercultural quality reflective of cosmopolitan city-life.
Above all, Urban Equity acknowledges the creative and intellectual work of those who seek to break ground, to find more inclusive and equitable ways to procure the built environment.
Please do contact us with feedback, comments, or suggestions for projects / publications to feature.
